GENEVA: A joint consultation between the Global Forum on Migration and Development (GFMD) and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development, providing a platform for European perspectives on migration has come to a successful conclusion. Geneva: Participants from the Regional Conference on Migration – otherwise known as the Puebla Process – today concluded a series of discussions as part of the Global Forum on Migration and Development (GFMD). The RCM is a pan-American forum, bringing together eleven Member States from North and Central America. GENEVA: Member States of the Bali Process, a major Regional Consultative Process focused on combating people smuggling, trafficking in persons and transnational crime in the Asia Pacific region, today completed their round of consultations as part of the GFMD 2020 Regional Meetings.

GENEVA: African Member States today completed a round of global discussions on migration and development, the first of five regions to conclude the 2020 Global Forum on Migration and Development (GFMD) Regional Consultations. Co-organised by the African Union, the outcomes of those discussions between African Member States, civil society organisations, business and cities will now go forward to preparations for next year’s Summit, to be held in Dubai in January 2021.

A major global summit on migration will be coming to Dubai in January 2021, after the UAE formally took over the Presidency of the Global Forum on Migration and Development from Ecuador on Thursday.

The hand-over, which took place during a formal ceremony in Quito, marked the start of an ambitious yearlong programme of events around the world, which will focus on improving how governments respond to international migration.

10-11 September, Geneva – Ambassador Santiago Chavez, representing the Global Forum on Migration and Development (GFMD) 2019 Chair Ecuador, presided the third and final preparatory meetings of the GFMD in 2019 at the Palais des Nations in Geneva.
