Summary: 

The Portuguese Government has adopted since 2007 different National Plans against Trafficking in Human Beings. The first from 2007 - 2010, the second between 2011 - 2013 and the most recent one for the 2014 - 2017 period.

Portugal has already its third National Plan against Trafficking in Human Beings in effect with five strategic areas:

  1. Preventing, Sensitizing, Knowing and Investigating;
  2. Educating, Training and Qualifying;
  3. Protecting, Intervening and Empowering;
  4. Conducting criminal investigation;
  5. Cooperating.

The main aim is to combat in an integrated manner all forms of trafficking of human beings. The main aspect in the plan is the preventive and protective engagement and actions. Portugal has also an Anti-traffic Unit which was created in 2013. It already served the previous plans and does all the follow-up of the actions that are taken under this plan.
