Summary: 

The Swiss Federal Office for Vocational Training (OFFT) and the Switzerland-India Chamber of Commerce launched a pilot project for technical training based on the initial polymechanic vocational training provided by Swissmem in 2008. The certificate of "Multiple Skilled Production Technician" was awarded to the first 18 professionals who followed a two years training program in the industrial sector.

Until the end of the pilot phase in 2011, this cooperation worked on the model of a public-private partnership, with almost half of the costs being borne by the private sector. Economic partners in the pilot project are Swiss companies represented in India: ABB, Bühler, Bobst, Burckhardt Compression, Holcim, Rieter and StarragHeckert.

A private body will be responsible to ensure the operational implementation and expansion of the project in India. In order to achieve this, the IFFT and Swissmem signed up with SkillSonics Private Ltd., which was founded for the implementation of the project in India and new cooperation agreements for the period 2012-2022.
