In 2017, Indonesia enacted a new Law on the protection of Indonesian migrant workers  (Law No 18/2017).  Replacing an old Law, the new Law reinforces policies to provide end-to-end protection to overseas workers, which including the measures as follows:.

• Holistic protection (socio-economy and legal protection) for Indonesian Migrant Workers (IMW) - before, during and after recruitment
• Provide social security system for Indonesian Migrant workers
• Integrated services for IMW at any level of governance, from local government to central government
• Skill improvement program for IMW
• Strengthen the public agency for IMW recruitment, under National Agency for the Protection and Placement of International Migrant Workers. Private sector roles are limited only to IMW placement, not recruitment. The measures are to promote ethical recruitment

In line with the Law, Indonesian Government has continue the following program :

• One Stop Service Program for IMW at District Level, which provide civil registry, social security services, financial services, among other government services to ensure efficient and transparency in providing IMW with the legal documents necessary. Since its inception at 2015, the One Stop Service has been established in 32 districts.
• Productive Migrants Villages Program, established  in 2016.  In 2018, there are 252 villages has implementing this program, which has 4 pillars, as follow:

• Providing Migration Services, including information on job vacancy abroad, save migration procedure, job training information, migration document information, ID and visa at destination country, and hotline number for migrant workers abroad.
• Providing Entrepreneurship Training, business management, business facilitation and coaching
• Community Parenting, to ensure IMW children with health insurance coverage, education, counselling, healthy internet habits.
• Migrant Village Cooperative Unit, providing business loan, recruitment financing and remittance management
