Establishment of the GFMD Secretariat

The Director General of the International Organization for Migration (IOM), António Vitorino and Ambassador Jérôme Bonnafont, Permanent Representative of France to the United Nations in Geneva signed an agreement on 18 January to set in place the framework for the Secretariat to provide support to the Forum.

Through this agreement, IOM renews its commitment to support the GFMD as an important platform for dialogue for experts and practitioners from national and local governments, the private sector and civil society to discuss the challenges and opportunities linked to migration and development. The Secretariat will assist the GFMD governance bodies and stakeholder community through liaison, administrative and logistical support services.
