MGCY Regional Focal Point for North America. Part of the organizing committee for the Youth Forum taking place in conjunction with the GFMD, and facilitator of the session on “Shaping public narratives on migration and migrants”.

Monica is a student, activists, and migrant. In 2013 she co-founded Sin Palabras, a multicultural artist collective aimed at empowering migrants and refugees to find a voice in their situation where they feel silenced, and share their stories through art. These works are then shared in exhibitions, alongside information about migration and asylum seeking, in order to raise awareness of the issues with the host population. In her role, she has led 5 projects in different countries and in partnership with organizations such as the UNHCR, The National School of Theater of Canada, France Terre d’ Asile, The Migratory Program of the Iberoamericana University. Monica holds a BA in International Relations from Mexico, and is currently enrolled in the MPA programme in Columbia University. Her research focuses are the immigration phenomenon in Central America, Mexico and the US including shaping policies and narratives.

She is youth associate of the Mexican Council on Foreign Relations and a volunteer in MY World Mexico.
