Summary:

Camp Konik was the largest refugee settlement in Montenegro with a total of 228 displaced/internally displaced famility (some 950 persons). The camp was constructed in 1999 to host refugees that fled from Kosovo.

The problem of illegal waste disposal on public surfaces is most evident in Konik, where it is often necessary to engage mechanization several times during the day. This makes the Konik area one of the most demanding parts of the city, both from the standpoint of regular collection and removal of waste, and the removal of illegal dumps around containers and other public surfaces.

Overall objective: Comprehensively contribute towards improvement of sustainable waste management  in Konik area

  • Objective 1: Provision of necessary communal equipment
  • Objective 2: Regulation of existing and prevention of new illegal dumps
  • Objective 3: Raise awareness of residents regarding sustainable waste management

With this project, the Ministry of Labor and Social Welfare of Montenegro improved waste management in the site by removing unregulated sanitary units, installing appropriate communal sanitation infrastructure and providing education and information on proper waste disposal.
