Through its bridge-building character, this platform aims at improving and enhancing the capacity and impact of African diaspora organisations involved in development activities in Africa, and connecting the e-Diaspora organizations in Europe. Effective network dynamics and activities are best managed on a permanent platform, setting structured grounds for a competent delivery of relevant and appropriate context specific services to diaspora organizations, countries of destination and countries of origin. This platform-building is at the core of the Africa-Europe Development Platform (AEDP) project:
1. ADEPT sets the ground for comprehensive platform-building activities, which are led and managed by African diaspora organizations based in Europe.
2. ADEPT strengthens independent, effectively functioning diaspora organizations and fosters their cooperation through capacity building and training.
3. ADEPT provides for relevant and appropriate coordination between diaspora organizations, countries of residence and countries of origin.

These objectives are pursued through a large number of activities involving the platform's partners and major steps are being made towards a permanent and sustainable platform.

For instance, ADEPT supports African Diaspora Development Organisations (ADDOs) through:
- Optimizing their development engagement in Africa
- Professionalizing their organisations and activities
- Creating effective partnerships in Europe and Africa
- Expanding and improve their development activities in Africa
- Influencing the policy and practice of development cooperation

ADEPT also provide a map of ADDOs (which can be found here: https://www.adept-platform.org/our-network-of-addos/), and facilitates Diaspora Development Dialogue, including:
- professional Training of African Diaspora-Development Organisations (ADDOs)
- development Dialogue between ADDOs and mainstream agencies and institutions
- facilitated Networking for collaborative action and improved development impact.
