Summary:

In 1990, under the patronage of King Hassan II, the Foundation for Moroccans Living Abroad was created to promote economic and cultural co-operation with the diaspora and to support them. This Foundation, in co-operation with the International Organization for Migration (IOM) established an Observatory of the Moroccan Community Living Abroad (EOMC), which offers an information system for the government on migration management issues.

The Observatory had the objective of documenting emigrant population trends, and building understanding in government and non-government agencies - as well as in private sector - of the needs, issues and potential strategies for improved knowledge of the expectations, difficulties and potential of the Moroccan emigrant population.

The Observatory aims to assess the current situation and tools that are in place to encourage diasporas’ involvement, as well as to propose new ways to facilitate diasporas’ investments, human and financial transfers.
