More in Common is an international initiative set up in 2017 to build communities and societies that are stronger, more united and more resilient to the increasing threats of polarisation and social division.
Their approach is to develop and deploy positive narratives, celebrating what people have in common rather than what divides them, and connecting people on a large scale and across lines of difference, through events and campaigns. They have partnered with different actors to help spread these messages, for instance partnering with the BBC on their 'Crossing Divides' television series, and have started running pilot projects to achieve these goals.
The More in Common project also conducts rigorous population segmentation studies, with a focus on working with psychologists to help understand what is driving polarization and social fracturing. They have released a number of publications providing insights into the sources of polarization, and particularly attitudes towards national identity, immigration and refugees.
As of 2019, More in Common has national hubs in the United Kingdom, United States of America, France and Germany.
