Partner(s):
National Government of Canada
Tags:

Summary:

In 2018, the Canadian Federal Government lauched the 'Immigration Matters' initative to dispel common myths about immigrants and refugees, and promote positive engagement between Canadians and new migrants.

The campaign uses both personal storytelling and facts to build a balanced view of immigrants in Canada and the benefits they bring to the country. It encourages other organizations and the public to use the #ImmigrationMatters hashtag on social media channels to share positive stories of migrant integration in their communities. The initiative is targeted to Canadians who are neither strongly in favour nor strongly against immigration - about 60% of the population.

Those looking to contribute stories can receive a toolkit on how to highlight important messages in their stories. Buttons and business cards are also available to promote the benefits of immigration.

As well as these stories, the Immigration Matters website includes facts about how Canada's immigration system works, and what benefits immigration brings to Canada's economy and various industries, including providing lists of famous Canadia immigrants in different fields like the arts, science, sports and business.
