Summary:

The M4D Net is the go-to hub on migration and development (M&D) which brings together over 4,800 migration practitioners and policy makers from around the world to get informed, discuss and share on the issue of migration and development and is accessible through a dedicated website: www.migration4development.org.

The M4D Net allows individuals and organisations to create user-generated content. After having created their profile, migration and development actors meet and connect with others working on similar initiatives and have access to a plethora of materials and research papers. The M4D Portal functionalities are designed to: set up and reinforce networks of actors working on migration and development; identify good practices and share information on what actually works in migration governance for development among those who are active in this field; provide advice and support; share information and resources and; feed into policy-making on migration and development.

A new and key feature of the M4D Net is the M&D and SDGs section which provides users with an interactive way to explore the interlinkages between migration and the SDGs as well as a non-exhaustive list of steps and subsequent activities that interested actors can undertake to ensure the development potential of migration is taken on board in all relevant efforts to achieve the SDGs.

The M4D Net also collates relevant resources and training tools in the M4D Resources section including the My JMDI Toolbox on Migration and Local Development which is a set of modular training materials to support local and regional authorities enhance their efforts to manage migration for development. Various guidelines such as the Mainstreaming Migration into Local Development Planning or good practices such as the UN Joint Migration and Development Initiative’s Success Stories are also available, various online e-courses and more.

Other features include participating in e-discussions, discussion fora, accessing projects and good practices, blogs, videos, news and more.

The M4D Net is funded by the Swiss Agency for Development Cooperation and is now managed by IOM after its creation under the UN Global Inter-Agency Joint Migration and Development Initiative which came to an end in 2017.
